Most parents and caregivers don’t have tools and resources to help guide their children through picky eater behaviours. Parents and caregivers often get “stuck” using these common “default tricks” like pressure, bribing, and distractions. These common methods don’t get to the root cause of Picky Eater Syndrome and can make this more difficult.
Common challenges include:
Pressuring their child to take just “one more bite…” again and again
Using electronic devices as a distraction to eat.
Sneaking veggies into their child’s food
Using bribing tactics with dessert items
-
These common “tactics” can set a child up to develop an unhealthy relationship with food that can last into adulthood. These common feeding methods may create subconscious stress associations around the dinner table. This can turn into a lifelong battle with food and even develop into more serious eating issues down the road.
